Being bullied

When you're being left out or talked about

  • Exclusion and rumors are bullying too — your feelings are valid.
  • Spend time with people and activities that make you feel like yourself.
  • Write down what's happening so it's easier to explain to someone who can help.

Parent or caregiver

Signs your child may be experiencing bullying

  • Changes in sleep, appetite or mood; not wanting to go to school or activities.
  • Unexplained injuries, lost belongings, or anxiety around their phone.
  • Pulling away from friends or seeming unusually down about themselves.

Parent or caregiver

Starting the conversation at home

  • Choose a calm moment — side-by-side talks, like in the car, can feel easier.
  • Listen first. Thank them for telling you and reassure them it's not their fault.
  • Make a plan together so they keep a sense of control.

Parent or caregiver · School or community

Working with your child's school

  • Share specific, dated notes and ask about the school's bullying policy.
  • Request a follow-up time to check on progress.
  • Keep communication in writing when possible, and stay focused on your child's safety.

School or community

Building a culture of respect

  • Set clear, shared expectations for how everyone treats one another.
  • Teach bystanders simple ways to help: interrupt, include, report.
  • Make reporting easy and respond consistently every time.

Adult at work

Responding to workplace bullying

  • Keep a factual log: dates, times, what was said or done, and any witnesses.
  • Review your organization's conduct and reporting policies.
  • Raise concerns with a manager or HR you trust, and lean on allies outside work.
